PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Stacey is admitted as a Lawyer of the Supreme Court of NSW and holds a Master of Taxation from the University of Sydney.   Stacey is also a member of the Taxation Institute of Australia.

CURRENT PRACTICE

Stacey Smith practices in the areas of corporate advisory and structuring, taxation and intellectual property with a focus on trade marks, brand protection, sponsorship and licensing in the media, entertainment and broadcasting fields.

Stacey has recently assisted clients with national and international fundraising and licensing/ endorsement agreements, tax implications arising from commercial dealings with non-residents, corporate governance and corporate re-structuring and advising to SMEs on PAYG compliance and employee incentive schemes.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Stacey has extensive experience advising on intellectual property matters involving registration and enforcement of IP rights, defence of third party challenges, international registration and drafting and negotiating licensing and sponsorship/endorsement agreements. 

Stacey’s expertise incorporates a particular tax focus including tax implications under Double Tax Agreements and Australian GST law in relation to licensing arrangements with non-residents and the importation of rights and property into Australia.

She also advises clients on corporate structuring and corporate governance issues including director’s duties and member rights.   Stacey has advised businesses on privacy issues, advertising requirements and Part V Trade Practices Act compliance and the regulation of emerging technologies including internet and mobile broadcasting.

Stacey has experience in industries including film, music, gaming and sport.
